This is much thinner than I expected. See my photo of the mat coiled, looking at it from the end. It will certainly protect your floor, so it should be fine under a stationary bike or other piece of exercise equipment. But this would not be my preferred type of mat for any training where some resistance and buffering were needed, either for comfort or for using heavy items like free weights.

The other issue is that the mat is oozing VOCs. It actually burned my eyes upon opening. You can see in my photos where it is currently placed, which is draped over a bookshelf. After several day the most noxious fumes have dissipated, but they remain strong up close. I am sensitive to such things, so I continue to wait. I noted that the odor passed to my hands and clothing—and clung to any other surface with which the mat made contact—and also that it was somewhat greasy.

The odor and surface substance reminded me so strongly of petroleum that I had to double-check that this was not made of rubber. It claims instead to be made of “PVC,” which is synthetic and should be odorless. That concerns me. PVC exhibiting a strong petroleum odor and greasiness usually indicates additives that aren’t disclosed or something that has not gone quite right in terms of the manufacturing process that converts hydrocarbon-based raw materials (petroleum, natural gas) to polymers with imperfections and lingering remnants of ethanol.

I’m going to leave this draped in my unused room for another week and then check it again.

When I can’t ride outside for whatever reason, I love that I can now use my bike indoors. It’s a good fit for my gravel bike with a trainer on the back wheel. I sweat a lot though, so this mat isn’t able to catch it all. I keep a towel close by to wipe down the floor when I finished. Other than that, this mat is perfect for my needs.

I received this training mat in September 2023. I actually have a Saris bike trainer and needed a mat to protect my carpet from bike oil/grease and anything else that may fall off my bike whenever I am using the trainer. This mat serves this purpose very well. The mat is made out of a nice durable rubber material. It is dense but still very flexible/pliable. Since it is so dense and pliable it lays very flat on hard surfaces. For my use I need to lay it over a thick living room carpet. When I do this it doesn’t stick up on any corners or edges when I have my bike on it which happens when I use thick foam type training mats since due to their thickness and the weight of my bike they tend to flex up on the edges. I think this mat would be good for protecting your carpet from any other type of heavy object that you need to put on top of it. I believe this training mat will last a long time due to how well it appears to be made.

I replaced an old entry rug I had under my trainer that had slowly accumulated a lot of sweat and made my office have that dirty laundry smell.

This mat is thin enough to be stable but thick enough to dampen the vibration and noise of my Wahoo trainer so my family downstairs doesn’t hear the THRUMMMMMMM of a trainer; it’s now no louder than the fan going in the room.

The surface has a little texture to it so cleated shoes do not slip off but not so much that it holds grime or sweat; a quick spritz with cleaner and a rag gets all the sweat drips off. It also rolls up easily when you need to move the bike and trainer to vacuum or use the room for other purposes.

Saris generally makes quality products and this one is no exception.

It does the job; however, it does not provide good cushioning.

I order the 65 x 36 trainer mat to use under my squat rack in my home gym. At first I was concerned because the mat seemed thinner than I expected, but after using it for several weeks I can say that it really has not been an issue. The mat lays super flat, even on low carpeted surfaces and any divots from leaving equipment on the mat seem to disappear the next day. The mat feels sturdy when I’m on it and provides great traction for my feet.

For a mat at this price range I expect a little more thickness. It is only about 2mm thick. It does the job of keeping sweat off the floor, but not much else. A plus is it has no chemical smell. A solution for the thinness is to put pieces of 1/4” thick rubber under the bike contact points to absorb shock and lower the noise from the bike, but then why would anyone pay so much for a mat that needs fixing to make it work?
