This is an AWESOME chain tool for the price! Heavy, but not too heavy. Compact and strong. Worked great for both installing and breaking my 10 speed Shimano chain. Will be buying more Pro Bike Tool’s for my tool collection.

This bike chain removal tool is very sturdy. Had use it several times and don’t see anything bent unlike the cheaply made tool. The design ensure the chain sits tightly on the end for the pin to be pressed out. The only down sides with this design is (1) you can’t see the pin coming out completely thru the hole on the other side of the tool. Have to feel the friction of the pin on the other end when you rotate the bar. The other bike chain tool design with the fingers at the middle, you can see the pin coming off and not pushed it all the way out. (2) pushing the pin back in is a tight fit. The chain thickness plus the pin sticking out means that you have to back the screw all the back. This bike chain tool is probably not for first timers. The tool now has a place in my tool box. Next time would get the pliers tool for my new bike chain with quick link.

Excellent product. I have been using this for the last year and have really enjoyed using it. Easy to hold and operate and looks great. The only problem I ran into was when working on a really old bike (late 40’s or early 50’s maybe) that had an original chain with very large link plates. These older chain link plates did not fit into the cradle of this tool. I only mention this in case you work on older bikes. Otherwise this is a fantastic tool.

The design of this tool is perfect for breaking a bike chain.
I haven’t tried all the breaker tools available. but this is absolutely the best design I’ve used so far.

The tool feels sturdy and heavy in the hand… like a quality tool. Then, you go to use it and things go down hill from there. I’m pretty disappointed and am glad I had a backup tool.
I hope the company reaches out to me to either issue me a refund or replacement… preferably a refund considering this tool is unreliable as others have posted.

After putting a on a chain the other week and the pin on my old one deciding to just into the unit I was after a new one and after a little bit of research saw that people were using this with the quality being good, so thought I would take the plunge and purchase one my self.
I am not disappointed with this at all, very well made and easy to use, even with my large hands. Everything is well made and you can tell that from the feel of the item, looking at where the pin is looks like that won’t move and also the hooks for the chain look like they won’t bend or break like some have in the past. Small enough to take on a ride, fits in your pocket or saddle bag etc and not heavy.
Overall a great item and I am very impressed with this think I will be buying some more items from this company (My track pump has just broken).

This is a pretty nice chain tool. When I got it out of the box, it was a lot smaller than I had expected, but it’s for bicycles. What more did I expect? I ride motorcycles and the chain tool for motorcycles is a lot larger. The finish on this tool is a bit overkill, but hey, we all like nice stuff anyway.
Ok, I’ve only used this tool once now but it’s worked flawlessly so far. I was very weary the first time since so many reviewers had mentioned the pin snaps on the first use. Now, the pin didn’t come out like butter, mostly because the chain is a 10-15 year old chain that had been in the back yard all this time. Did the pin snap? No. Why? Because you are supposed to grind off the head of the pin before pushing it through from the opposite side. At least that’s how I do it for motorcycle chains.
Other than that, there’s nothing else really to say than this is a pretty nice tool and hopefully the pin will be easy to purchase WHEN it does break. Even the pins on the motorcycle chain tool will break after so many uses.
As far as ease of use, well, the chain will dictate the angle that you use it in, so in that aspect, ease of use is a function of working-angle.

Anyone just starting to tackle minor maintenance on their bike is likely to start with replacing chains. Even though many chains now come with quick-links making removing/replacing them a breeze, whenever you buy a new chain it’s probably longer than whatever is on your bike and you’ll need to remove a few links. There are inexpensive versions of this type of tool, though those aren’t nearly as rugged and may wind up damaging the chain. I go through 4-5 chains a year, have replaced over 50 now, and this is my second chain tool from Pro Tools. These are excellent quality, work perfectly and I’d consider this one of those “forever” tools you’ll never have to retire (and the only reason I bought another one is for my travel tool kit).

It’s the best chain breaker that I have. It has a good feel to it and it looks nice also. When I first got it, I thought it was too small. That it would be hard to hang on to it and get the leverage to break the chain. I was wrong. The way it holds the chain and push the pln made it smooth and easy. I had to try it a couple more times. It works the same every time. I fully recommend this tool.

Indeed, it breaks the chain. The problem is fixing it back… Usually people don’t recommend you to push the pin all the way out of the link, so that it’s easier to push it back in, but with this thing it’s hard to see where the pin is right now, as it slides into that black adjustable nut on the other side, so that even xray won’t be able to tell you, if pin is on the edge.
One might say, that some chain manufacturers don’t recommend to reuse the pins, so you have to push it all the way out anyway, which this thing does with ease, but then it’s pretty hard to put it back in. One of the chains I’ve seen that requires new pin everytime is Shadow Conspiracy interlocked and they have the tool to re-chain it. What they did there to help you put the new pin in is they provide a guide pin, that you can insert from the other side, which holds links in alignment. When you start pushing new pin in – it pushes that guide pin out. Pretty easy, and it works. Here you need one hand to hold both ends of the chain in alignment, second one to hold new pin and third hand to turn the screw.
