After owning this chain tool for only a couple of months now I have unfortunately had the chance to use it multiple times on both SRAM and Shimano type chains and link pins.
Bottom line: this is a great tool.

    The Good:
Light, strong, functional design, replaceable center punch/pin, very easy to use.

    The Bad:
    Well, nothing really.
I did have the center punch/pin unscrew off the tool, leaving it in a link one time, but I believe this happened for two reasons. One, inherent in the design of the replaceable punch/pin, it has to be able to screw off to replace. I think it came a little loose so, when I tried to back off the tool one time it simply unscrewed the replaceable pin from the tool. I really do not think this was the tool’s fault and the knurled body of the punch/pin was enough to let me get it out of the link, back on the tool and me back on the trail in just a few seconds extra time. When I got home I simply tightened the punch/pin onto the tool with some small nose pliers.
I am still keeping my review to a 5 star, as I view this as my failure to properly tighten the punch/pin before using it.

I would recommend this stand alone chain tool as a carry along on the trail or road over any I have used that are part of a multi-tool.
A quality tool that should give you years of service.

Great little tool. After reading reviews on here for various chain tools I decided to choose this one. I made the right choice, the price was good and the tool works very well. Good price to quality ratio.

It took me a few turns and the chain pin slid out easily, by hand. It’s sturdy and small enough to fit in my little under seat tool bag on rides.

I needed to shorten my chain by a few links and this did the job perfectly!

The brand also has very helpful videos on YouTube to guide on repairs as well.

It was delivered before the expected arrival time. Although this was over a week, but I was expecting 2 weeks.

    Very happy with it!

Performed exactly as I needed it to. I gave a 4 out of 5 on ease of use, because it takes a little bit of toying around with grips to find the right way to get enough force on it to push the chain pins out. And pushing the chain pins out took quite a bit of force (as you’d hope). But I’ve ridden roughly 100 miles since changing it and its working perfectly, and the tool feels study enough to feel like it’ll last forever, but it also small enough that on longer distance rides I can pop it in my bag with no worries about taking up very much space or weighing me down.

    Tips:
-When pushing the pins out of a connection you want to connect again after, be careful not to push it all the way out. Ideally push out enough that you can take the link apart, but that the pin is still in the outer bit. If you push it all the way out then it seems like it would be very difficult to put back in (I did this and tried for a little bit and just decide to go to another link). So be careful when getting close to that point (when I got to this point I would do this by tightening it like a 1/4 or 1/2 turn and taking it out and seeing if it seperates).
-Make sure you use the link loosener. The directions that come with it gave two different options for putting the chain (one for pushing pins in / pushing pins out, and another for loosening links). What I didn’t realize is that when I put the pins in that they were very tight and needed to be loosened. So don’t overlook this step.

I’ve been riding for years, but I don’t really know the first thing about bike maintenance. Well, now that I’ve been reading up I do, and it sounds like there is a lot I have been neglecting over the last few thousand miles. I guess that speaks to the build quality of Trek. Anyway. Last month I went through a pretty big overhaul, replacing pretty much all of the important components: shift and brake cables, cassette, chain, and possibly the most important: bar tape.

I do _all_ of my own automotive repair so I elected to purchase the tools to do the bike work myself as I plan to ride for years to come. I purchased a Shimano chain which necessitates a chain tool of this variety. Some chains use a master link which can be installed/removed with pliers; but Shimano uses a ‘master pin’ meaning they ship the chain as an opened loop (just a length of chain), and to close the loop you use this tool to press the pin to connect the ends together. The tool works great for this purpose; its small, sturdy, easy to use, and includes instructions. My only minor complaint is that the tool doesn’t include a notch or lever of some sort to break off the remaining chain nub that MUST be removed before the chain can use. It would be quite difficult to fix a chain on a ride without an additional tool in your bag. Overall though, I’m very pleased with this.

I’ve used it 4x on two separate chains… works great.

Works well and quite easy to use. This is the one to get if you will use it infrequently. If you want an even easier more plush experience, spend double the money and go for the park tool 3.3. That one is bigger and requires less hand strength to operate. This one is portable and cheaper of course, and so I wouldn’t choose it if I knew I had to replace chains every day.

I had never done a chain myself before until I bought a little fixer trek hotrock for my 4yo that had a badly stretched/worn chain. This tool made it a breeze to knock out a few links and replace the chain. I rate it a 5 with the understanding it is designed for portability and lower cost. That said though, I ‘m sure it will last me for quite a long time, and at this price it’s easily worth having in the tool box.
