This was something I hadn’t even though of…until I saw it! This little gadget however, will probably be very useful. First things first, the unit is powered by the battery itself and contains no other battery, so nothing to ever wear out or change. I ran a couple of batteries, both SRAM and aftermarket with no problems. Both worked by showing a battery charge level. Now, the question I’m sure everyone is asking….how do I know it’s giving me accurate information? This was my question too. While not the most empirical of data, I’m pretty sure it will give you close to what’s really going on the battery. You’ll see in my photos a SRAM and and aftermarket battery. I pulled the SRAM battery off my derailleur right as the LED was displaying solid red. SRAM states this is “approximately 50%” and the unit displayed the battery at 52%. The aftermarket battery was pulled right out of the charger and shows 100%. I’ll take that all day for accuracy. It also tells me the LED’s on the AXS components is probably giving me good info as well. This little gem will definitely go into my toolbox, especially since I have four batteries I rotate. Nice that I can just run them all through to see charge levels just in case I forgot to charge or just to make sure I’m bringing charged up batteries when heading out on multi-day trips, etc….

Simple battery tester showing percentage of battery left. Provides more detailed level of charge than manufacturer app.

I always bring this on my road trips now so that I can ID how much power is left on my batteries. That being said, it does look EXACTLY like a charger, so there have been instances where I grabbed the wrong one while packing and had batteries not charging when I thought they were.

Overall a great product for what it does, but do beware that you dont expect it to charge!

Not necessarily a requirement, especially since you should probably just charge the SRAM batteries once a month or so, but super convenient and practical if you just want an idea of how much battery you have left before you head out on a ride.
Full disclosure: I didn’t pay for the battery checker but I would pay for it just for the convenience of being able to check my battery.
It really doesn’t take up much space so I keep it in my riding bag so I can check a battery before a ride, although you can get an idea of how much battery is left by looking at the color of the LED on the derailleur too, but that’s really not as accurate as this battery checker is.
I used it to check my full battery, and then again to check the battery that was on my bike, so that gave me a good idea of how much battery was left. The display on the battery checker is bright enough to read in normal lighting but I haven’t used it out on the trail yet so I can’t say how it will look in really bright sunshine, I imagine it would be just fine to read though.
I can’t comment on the long-term reliability of the battery checker but it’s such a simple device that I don’t foresee there being any issues.
Overall, I would use my own money to purchase one of these battery checkers because of the convenience, simplicity and practicality of it.
