Garmin Tacx Boost Trainer, Indoor Bike Trainer

Amazon lo mando sin protección en una caja demasiado grande llego en tiempo pero la caja maltratada, el rodillo llego bien, pero el sensor de velocidad solo funcionó una vez en la app después ya no se conecta por lo que no puedes medir distancia o velocidad al entrenar así que recomiendo el que viene solo el rodillo

The product is very nice. The ride is smooth and if you have the Garmin sensor, it gives you a good representation of your outdoor ride. However, I found installing the rear wheel resistance piece was very challenging. It wasn’t as simple as it appears in the instruction. There are 3 different slots to select from based on your wheel size. Trying to hold the clamp and mount the roller was difficult (at least for me).

This trainer is solidly built and very stable. Resistance can be varied from medium to nearly impossible.

The only real complaint is that the assembly directions are too skimpy.

Thought about knocking a star off because it’s a faff setting it up and the virtual power is only really of any value if you have the resistance lever in position 2 because that’s the power curve they used (although pos 3 works better for me)
It’s fake power anyway.
Upon reflection this Trainer deserves 5 stars.
Better trainers than this are out there for a similar price.
Garmin bought Tacx and made the Tacx Boost their budget trainer.
It’s not worth the £250 price they want but Garmin stuff is generally overpriced.
I got this on Amazon pay monthly (£190 over 5 months)
It’s a dumb trainer with a speed sensor that’s all. No Cadence sensor so no RPM. No power meter (it’s fake power from fancy mathematics)
It’s just a powerful mag trainer that’s all.
Nothing special except Power at low cadence without the spiral of death associated with electronic smart turbos.
It offers a bit more resistance than some other trainers and it’s smooth transition through the resistance setting is nice.
I went from a 2 way Smart Trainer to this dumb Trainer because I wanted to be able create my own GPS based Training Routes, create my own workouts and download ‘Films’ so I could still train if my internet dropped out. Tacx software does that.
Tacx let’s me do all of the above and more.
Tacx films are decent quality.
This is Tacx’s (Garmin’s) cheapest trainer.
This Trainer is reasonably quiet during ‘normal’ use.
Tacx claim it’s got the potential to get over 1000W out of you but without a power meter you won’t really know.
I can’t see Garmin telling lies about this Trainer’s need for amazingly high power capabilities.
The fact that the power is mathematically derived is no big deal. Lots of people haven’t got power meters but I reckon Garmin must have used one when they tested this beast at over 1000W.
Putting the Trainer together was a bit of a ball ache.
The tension mechanism will cause some issues. (Not ‘may’ but WILL)
You need wheel position 2 (RACE) on the magnet for a 700c wheel and the resistance lever is also position 2 for ‘virtual power’ although position 3 was more in line with my previous results with a ‘smart trainer’.
Your legs don’t care about this ‘virtual’ power btw…
Just ride your bike when the weather is good and go on a trainer when it’s crap.
It’s simple.
It’s stable enough. (I’m a short arse)
Don’t imagine that Garmin are that foolish that they would sell something that’s not safe.
Virtual Power is what all Smart Trainers give you unless you actually use power meter cranks or pedals and this is no different.
The Trainer will work Zwift but I left Zwift because of the endless updates and the fact it wasn’t straightforward creating local routes to train on when it rains. Oh I nearly forgot the ‘cheats’ that race on Zwift.
This maybe something that you are ok with but I grew tired of these things on Zwift.
The Tacx training platform is a breath of fresh air and the Trainer comes with a 30 day Premium Subscription included.
If you want control of your cycling training, low cadence high power (hills) training, real world films and racing then this is cheap enough.
Like I said; better trainers are out there now that the World has started working again.
I’ve got to say it’s ‘Old School’ and perfect for my requirements. I’ve had Smart Trainers and Fluid Trainers but nothing puts resistance on a wheel on trainer like this.
High resistance low cadence workouts is what I want.
The Tacx Boost delivers.
Imagine this on resistance setting 6 and you are in the big ring working those legs…
Do that enough and the hills in real life may feel like speed bumps
Do you need a ‘smart trainer’ for a grand??
No way!
