To its credit, the third hand is a simple, well-built tool. In my experience, however, it was not able to grip the brake pads well enough to provide a significant quality-of-life benefit to brake adjustment. This may depend on the style and manufacturer of your brakes. For my money, I’d suggest getting a fourth hand tool instead, which makes the job seriously easy, and works with any cabled brake design.

I couldn’t find my 50+ year old third hand and had to break down and buy a new one. The only negative I have is that the arms that hold the brake pads are not as long as my old one.

Like described and a good deal.

Build quality and shipping times were fine. The product turned out to be much smaller than expected. Perhaps I misread the description, or perhaps it didn’t describe the smaller size than what know as standard. Either way, this product won’t work on MTB or BMX brakes. Check the size you need before you order.

While I’d love to include a pic of this thing in use, it’s nowhere near large enough to use. It’s supposed to fit across your brake pads to hold them against the rim; it won’t open wide enough, not even close. Don’t waste your money, even if it does have a cute yellow rubber coating on the handle. Should be twice the size it is, every dimension. Trash can material!
