good quality water bottle holder. they hold my swell stainless steel water bottles nicely. Some of these holders allows a zepherhills or swell bottle to slip out when i go over bumps biking. this one holds tightly and does not drop the bottle. buy this.

This functions as expected. It’s an interesting design that you will probably either love or hate. It holds the bottle securely and works as expected. Longevity will be the potential issues here.

I like a lot of West Biking products and this one is no exception. It is well crafted and looks really nice while remaining lightweight and being easy to attach. I tested with several of my Contigo and other refillable bottles and they all fit securely, albeit a bit snugly for some of the wider ones. As I don’t have anything thicker than the Contigo stainless steel locking bottles, I doubt this would work for those people with the extra wide bottles I’ve seen. For me, this is excellent and hits all the marks- looks, secure hold, lightweight, and easy to attach.

If you want this to hold just a regular plastic bottle of water it should work OK. A soda can will also fit but very snug. Once the can is opened the holder has a tendency to crush the can sides trying to get it in or out. Even my small Stanley 20 ounce thermos is a almost a two-handed job to push it in place. And the thermos is just a few millimeters larger diameter than a soda can. It is just very stiff plastic without much flexibility. No way you can push it in from the side. Only from the top where in some cases there isn’t enough room on the bike frame to do that.

I got this bottle holder to use on my recumbent bike that has two spots for bottle holders on the back of the seat, on either side. I had the typical cheap aluminum wire style cages there, but because they stick out a bit from the seat, over time they got bent and broken. I wanted something that could take a bump and not break.

I have high hopes for this holder because it seems to be made of fairly strong yet flexible hard plastic. It certainly can take a hit without deforming, as that is something I tried right off the bat. The fact that it looks like an owl is kinda interesting but of secondary importance to me.

I was able to attach this to my bike without any issues. It fit the standard screw hole spacing just fine. I opted use use the screws that came with my bike as there are three total bottle racks on my bike and I wanted them all to use the same size allen bit. But, the bottle holder did come with two screws and an allen wrench, so if you don’t already have them, don’t worry. The screws are longer than my original ones, and that’s probably because the plastic mount is thicker than the aluminum one I was replacing, but even so, my old screws worked fine with enough threads catching that I feel confident it won’t fall off.

In terms of holding bottles, this thing was able to hold every bottle I put in it, from short to tall, and even a glass bottle. The “wings” of the owl that grip the bottle can flex out quite a bit to hold different sizes, although I did notice on one of my thinner walled bottles, the walls were deformed a bit due to the pressure from the wings (see photo). It wasn’t an issue with the thicker plastic one. Unlike other bottle cages, this one doesn’t really grip the bottle indentation you find on most bicycle water bottles. The owl head is in the right spot, but it doesn’t really engage the indent at all. You can see what I mean in one of the photos. Instead, the bottle is held in place by the force exerted on the bottle by the wings, which feels pretty solid. I don’t expect the bottles are going to bounce out unless you are using very thin, non standard water bottles, then I might be concerned.

Getting the bottle out is easy, the smooth plastic allows the bottle to slip out with minimal pulling force (but not too minimal). Putting the bottles in takes a bit of practice, but after doing it a few times it was easy enough. You have to place the bottle base on top of the wings at about a 45 degree angle, then press it into the back and down while tilting the bottle back to vertical, and that action will open up the wings to accept the bottle.

So far, I’m impressed with the bottle holder. It feels sturdy yet flexible. By the end of the riding season, I’ll know if it can hold up to some bumps and hits.

The owls look so cool, but the grip is too tight. The plastic does not give for any bottle. Would not function on a ride and it would take two hands to fight getting a bottle in and out.
