Gave into the hype and tried this out for the lifespan of my last chain. Definitely not for hotter climates as it melted off right away leaving a very poor performance. During the cooler months it was better, but required regular reapplication after almost every ride. My typical rides are 2-3 hours, usually early morning or late afternoon with lots of hills. Also noted is even the smallest bit of water will remove all your hard work and riding home with what feels like a completely dry, aging chain. Ultimately it is too expensive and time consuming to get the promised gains out of it and since I can’t return it, I threw it in the trash.

I thought I would try this out and Im very happy with it. It’s like waxing your chain! My chain is super quiet now and moving smoothly. I wish it cost a little less but it’s worth it still.

As I have ridden over the years, I used to have to replace the chain every 750 – 1000 miles. After I started cleaning the chain more often, and using SILCA Super Secret Chain Lube, I am getting 2,500 – 3,000 miles on the chain.

I put this on all my bikes recently. Love it.
But I was never truly sure it worked until the other day – my sliding glass back door is on a small metal rail, so I cleaned the rail and put this wax on there…. hand to god my door slides sooooo much smoother now!

surprisingly low friction. tested by zerofrictioncycling.com.au the slica super secret wax is a top performer. noticed a night and day difference in pedaling effort between my old chain lube, dumonde dry. drivetrain stays sooo much cleaner than oil based lubes. no more black gunk on my legs/pants.
only gripe with this stuff is prep. chain needs to be completely clean, i use an ultrasonic cleaner for fast results. old wax or oil will keep the lube from coating the metal and waste the product. there is a big difference in effectiveness when the lube has been given 24 hours to dry before threading the chain thru the drivetrain. lastly, i like to hang the chain vertically on a hook to lube it. the excess will drip downwards on to the links below it 🙂

I hot dip wax my bike chain every 900 miles and use this drip wax every 100 miles between hot dips. Testing by Zero Friction Cycling says this is some of the best chain lube around.

This is easy to use and works great. There are two downsides however. The chain cannot have an oil based lube on it, only new cleaned chains or previously waxed ones. And they should set to dry (overnight is best) before use. But once you meet those conditions, this is fantastic lube. It will extend the life of your chain significantly.

I’ve used a number of lubricants over the years. The SILCA Super Secret lube is one of the better ones. In terms of ease of use, it’s a bit more fickle than some. You should always clean your chain before application of any lubricant but you really do need to make sure your chain is clean for this stuff. Any leftover grease or grit will impact the performance. I recommend a warm bath in an ultrasonic cleaner filled with de-greaser for about 30 minutes followed by a rinse with denatured alcohol. After the chain has fully dried, apply the lube (one to two drops per link) and allow to dry overnight.
I commute on my gravel bike about 100 miles a week plus another 50-odd miles recreationally on the weekends. Depending on the weather, I can usually get about a month between cleanings with this stuff before I start to notice any degradation in performance or noise from the drive train. My riding is probably 70-80% on-road and 20-30% off. I live in a fairly humid climate so dusty dirty is not as big of a factor for me, but I’ve noticed that this lube picks up much less dirt and debris than other lubes.
