I bought this “Used – good” at a significant discount, and aside from a tiny nick on the underside of the desk it seemed perfect. Turns out one of the metal legs was badly warped — probably the entire reason it was returned. I was able to bend it back though, using the jack from my car!

A couple things I figured out through this process: probably due to having to warp the leg back in place, it was a little tough getting the top screwed together. The metal in the legs is hollow, so if the screw goes in at any angle it can be exceptionally difficult getting it through the lower hole. The easy fix is to put the end screw(s) in upside down at first. That way you can get them through the leg with no tension, and they will go through the wood easily! You can get the middle ones screwed in, and then flip the end screw(s) back to right side up! With the middle screws in place, the end ones will become aligned, and the screws will slide through easily.

Second tip: it will be very difficult getting nuts screwed to the bottom nuts with the tools provided. There’s a tiny hole on the bottom of each leg that you have to tighten the nuts through. Having needle nose pliers will make it much easier to get those washers and nuts onto the screws. If you have a nut driver of some sort, that will also make screwing much much easier.

Update: it’s a little wobbly front to back due to the leg design. It’s also probably worth noting that in the product assembly instructions the top half is placed behind the bottom half. In the product pictures on Amazon, it’s the reverse — you can see the top half bolted in front of the bottom.

Sent to me with a damaged box and hardware – sitting in a landfill somewhere

The packaging of the desk structural materials was good, but the packaging of the hardware was poor. There was a small perforated hole in the side of one of the nut/washer compartments which left pieces littered throughout the packaging box. I’m left not knowing if I’m missing a nut somewhere in the room in my house where I constructed the desk, or if they left out a nut during packaging.

Furthermore, aligning which piece of hardware goes with which part of the instruction process is not straightforward, even with there being less than 10 unique hardware components. The packaging does not have identification markings for which compartment aligns to which hardware item being accounted for in the “Included Items” section of the instructions, making it difficult to know which screw I’m supposed to be using.

May be a trivial issue for most customers, but for how much this product costs in comparison to competitive products, I’d expect more. As a CycleOps fan for many years (first a Fluid2 then upgraded to an H2 with great experience), this has me questioning the quality of the new brand that comes with a Saris acquisition.
