–Think carefully if you want to risk permanent damage to your bikes only water bottle mount point.

Mounting the cage was extremely tricky because of the location. It was tight and impossible to start the bolt with your fingers-you had to try and start it on the end of an allen wrench, which anyone with experience knows is a no-no. The fact that it so nearly fit -you could catch the first thread but only with the bolt at an angle- might cause frustration and the temptation to press on with just a little more pressure, a few more turns. If you do, you will cross-thread the bolt and could cause permanent damage.

To repair it you would then be forced to try something like drilling it out and installing a ‘riv-nut’ -which would also be very difficult without a small right-angle drill and short drill bit and special installation tool for the ‘riv-nut’-or you’d need to remove the rear tire and fender and…….!!! Kiss your soon to be frustrating afternoon or $$$ goodbye!

To fix the cages I needed to use a ‘rat tail’ file to effectively lengthen the distance between the mounting slots on the water bottle holder. What should have been literally a 2 minute install for a 10 year old turned into a frustrating 30 minutes.

Just FYI- it was definitely the cages cause I tried both from my order and both were too short. Both a ‘no-go’ on an Aventon and an old Schwinn as well -But much more accessible. After mods it took less than 2 minutes…. to do both…with loctite!! -you get the picture.

The cages already use extended slots for mounting flexibility. I don’t see that an extra 0.5 mm in slot length is going to alter the engineering. And it wasn’t just plastic ‘flash’ from a seam line that could be easily removed with a small hobby razor, or even a small steak knife. It took 10 minutes on each with the file, or you might be ok carefully using a Dremel tool. (I’ve always found the Dremel allows you to make a bad situation worse, much more quickly.)

I am seriously questioning my purchase, just to save a couple $$- It’s not worth the time and frustration. It would be sooo easy for a new mechanic/rider (or an experienced one in a hurry) to cross-thread the hole and ruin the only water bottle mount…. I’ve used other ROCKBROS parts on my bikes and have always found them to be decent quality for the price. I just installed one of their bags on the rear rack of that same Lectric and the “Warranty Card” actually said that they would offer replacement within 15 DAYS of purchase or “free maintenance” within 30 DAYS of purchase. Everything else is in Chinese so I’m not sure if I’m required to mail the item back to them in China and I suspect that even the international phone call to find out would be much more $$ than the item was worth….. I can’t help but think of the cosmic divide between ROCKBROS “Warranty” and what Lectric just did to fix the brake issue on the XP 3.0 Customer service wise I think that tells me everything I really need to know. Consider spending the couple extra $$ on your water bottle cages………And DON”T CROSS-THREAD THE DARN THING!! -Hope this helps

Upon receipt I was a bit disappointed. Seemed awfully lightweight and flimsy plastic. But I flexed them rather dramatically and they didn’t break. They seem a bit smallish, you really have to jam a typical bike bottle in to seat it. This tight fit is a concern when trying to drink on the fly without stopping. I mounted mine in a gravel bike. With a frame bag, one had to be mounted on the front fork. First gravel ride with them I rattled along for 24 miles before a severe bump over a rock dislodged the now empty bottle on the fork. In fairness it was severe enough to throw my chain also. The bottle on the down tube stayed seated. So yeah, they do the job in spite of the flimsy plastic, and they are functional. This is my observation from ONE ride, Sept. 2024. If later there’s any issues I’ll update.

The best part of this aside from an attractive design that doesn’t catch on my pants went biking is that you may use it to fit a wide variety of bottle sizes, both right ways up and sometimes upside down to better fit more items on one’s bike frame.

The reviews which state this is on the small side are accurate. You can’t fit a big gulp into this thing. A 24-ounce or 1L water bottle should be no problem, though, as its “wings” are flexible and will hold in anything you can fit in, quite snugly. And honestly, how much liquid do you really need on a ride?

I’d wear a camelbak or stop and refill my bottle if I needed more than this would hold.

Installation was standard, and therefore, very straightforward. Would buy again if this one ever broke.
