For the price you get a tool that does the job. the casting is poor and appears to be a not so strong metal. But if you use this properly you should be able to remove many links and still have a functioning tool.

I wiped out on my bike and the chain came off. When I went to put the chain back on I discovered it had become tangled up. I watched three videos repeatedly on how to untangle a bike chain. While the theory seemed sound I could not get it to work in reality. I tried. My son tried. My friend tried. Hours spent but with no luck. I bought this tool, broke the chain, took it off the bike, cleaned it and reinstalled it all within 30 minutes. The tool seems well made, is inexpensive and works as intended.

Worked really well on a rusty chain beyond repair and it worked really well on a kmc s1 chain. I use this splitter for my single speed bmx and it makes it so easy to assemble and disassemble chains.

I know how to use a chain tool and this one is not worth the money. It broke the first time I tried it and I am beyond the window to return it. Look for a better, more robust, one.

It drove the pins out and back in with ease. The handle was very nice for removing but got a little in the way for replacing. Overall a great tool and way easier than using a nail set and hammer like I’ve been doing.

I’m happy with the purchase. It works well and is priced fairly. The integrated chain holder and extra chain pin are a nice touch.

Used, instructions in the bag. Youtube tutorials just in case it works.

Great chain tool. Well made and makes breaking a chain a walk in the park. I love the grippy handle. My old chain splitter did not have this and was way more difficult to use. And it comes with a handy tool that makes reassembling the chain much easier.

Tolerances and angles are just not there—pin goes a bit diagonal as you apply pressure.

Adequate for pressing out links where you want to shorten a chain (will destroy the links because of previously described faults) but definitely no good if you have a chain without a master link and want to use this tool to re-insert pins to re-close a chain.

For that, you’ll need a tool where things happen at right angles.
