The battery life is insane. Unless you’re doing very long days in the backcountry off-road and away from any charging opportunities, the solar is a complete waste. I get over 2 weeks of training at ~300mi/wk (road/gravel) out of one charge and even after all that the battery will still be at 30%, more than enough for a couple centuries. After a year or nearly daily use I have noticed no loss of capacity.
Easy to navigate, the monochrome LCD data screens are perfect…no wasting energy on colors, graphics, or animations no one needs. The screen is massive and easy to see but the unit is quite thin making for a minimal profile.
Even in hard rain it’s rare to get false input on the touch screen.
This puts wahoo’s sad button-only interface and karoo’s ‘barely can get through one ride’ battery life to shame.

Easy to use, bright screen, long battery life. This was a nice upgrade from my edge 520. Lots of neat little features and it works really well with all of my other ant plus devices

Amazing crisp screen that is much easier to read. They spent a lot of time to present data summaries in a more meaningful way. It also has a notification of potholes and other obstructions you can set & receive.

O equipamento é top, teve uma melhora considerável no layout, também implementação de algumas métricas que a linha 1030 não tem, vale o investimento.

I have always used Garmin for gps cycling computers. I started with edge 510, upgraded to the 830 and on this most recent Gamin sale convinced myself to give the 1040 solar a try.
In terms of size, I was initially shocked by how big it was compared to 830. It is smaller than my iPhone 15 pro. But the thing is big. That being said, once you have it in hand for a few minutes you start to appreciate how big it is. Its not too big, but it makes getting around menus and settings a little easier. I just took it out for a 4 hour ride and once its on the bike I didn’t mind the size. I actually appreciated the larger screen. Felt like it was easier to see metrics at a glance.
Battery is good too. Rode for 4 hours late afternoon/early evening. Battery dropped 14% and it said that I gained 17 minutes of battery life from solar while on the ride.
The other thing I really like that I could not do on my 830 is you can adjust settings and data display screens/activity profiles from the phone and sync it with the device.
The cons so far is that my radar, shifters and phone would sometimes disconnect and then immediately reconnect, or the device was at least showing that banner a few times. If that happened with the 830 it didn’t notify me like it did today on the first ride with it. Only happened a few times and wasn’t annoying enough to dock it a star.
If the device starts to annoy me or give me issues ill update this. Otherwise I wasn’t sure about its size but after the first ride im leaning more towards keeping it than not.

I’ve been using Garmin devices for years. This one replaces an old Edge 830 that stopped working. This is a state of the art bike computer with just about every feature a rider could imagine. I especially enjoy the new “climb profile” function. My only complaint is that integration with Garmin Connect seems to have some issues. Not all the data comes through as it should. I’ve contacted Garmin Customer Service about this but no resolution as of yet.

I’ve been using Garmin cycling computers for a while and this newest version does not disappoint. It’s Garmin’s flagship device and it does everything.
The 1040 is a departure with a new OS and a new UI that’s familiar yet solves a lot of the problems in the old one.
Battery life is crazy good and most rides only drain the battery 5-10%
Comes with a good mounting kit that’s sturdy and looks good.
I have it paired with a speed sensor, cadence sensor, heart rate sensor, DI2 shifter, varia light/radar, and the garmin headlight. Everything syncs up and stays synced without a hitch.
GPS reception is good and stays locked even in thick forest where I’ve had problems with older units.
The new hill climbing features are awesome!
