Dale Sanford Wins Jackson Race – Korzekwa 3rd

Marx-Bensdorf rolled to the line 13 strong and knew it was up to us to animate the race. When an initial move was brought back, Dale Sanford joined Tim Moore (901 Racing) and Brad Anderson (Cirque du Velos) off the front of the race and they gradually rolled away from the field. Numerous attacks were thrown after that, trying to get more folks off the front of the race.

Eventually, Matt Joiner from Marx-Bensdorf ended up off the main group in a two man move with Michael Carpenter (901 Racing). Not long after, Jonathan Korzekwa and new Cat 3 MB rider Chris Winter were off the front as well. With those numbers, we were a little more content to let the moves get away.

To speed up the race report, Winter and Korzekwa both caught up to Joiner and Carpenter. Joiner ended up flatting and giving up his wheel to Korzekwa, who battle to catch back up with Carpenter and Winter. Not long after latching back on, the work in the break finally caught up to Winter and he fell off the chase group of two.

In the end, Korzekwa and Sanford ended up together at the head of the race with Anderson, Carpenter, and Moore. Some hard accelerations got rid of Anderson and Moore, and it was now down to three. Korzekwa provided the final lead out, with Carpenter on his wheel and Marx-Bensdorf’s Dale Sanford following right behind. At 500 meters Korzekwa pulled off and Carpenter made his move. Dale had plenty in the tank to follow the acceleration and then launch with about 100 meters to go – winning the race by a bike length.

Overall Marx-Bensdorf goes 1st and 3rd on the day! Great day of racing!

Chris Winter Upgrades to Category 3

After some solid racing to start the 2012 season, BPC Cycling’s Chris Winter has earned his upgrade to Category 3 and will make the jump over to the Marx-Bensdorf Cycling Team.

Chris had a great Tour de Tuscaloosa where he finished 4th in the Cat 4 Criterium after spending most of the race off the front of the pack. In the road race, he found himself in a three man breakaway a little over 20 miles into the 40 mile race. With 10 miles to go, he dropped his breakaway companions on the hardest hill on the course, and soloed the last 10 miles on his own to cross the finish line ahead of 2nd place by right around 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Look for Chris to make an immediate impact in the Cat 3 ranks!

With our spring (soon to be) classic in the books, attention is swinging to the next event.  This race will be a more conventional road race (10 mile paved laps) held right outside of Jackson, Tennessee.  Should be close enough to draw talent from both ends of the I-40 (Memphis and Nashville).

The flier is attached.  It might be slightly revised as we get closer to the event.  (rev 2b is 2/28/2011)
